Most builders sell you a specification. We are interested in what the house gives back on a weekday morning, ten years in — which is a harder thing to build and the only thing you actually live in.

A ground-up residence off Cognewaugh Road in Cos Cob, built on our own capital. Every decision ours, and every consequence. Lap and board-and-batten siding over a coursed granite base. Standing-seam metal awnings at the entry and the bay. Black windows throughout, and a covered porch wrapping the front and side. Bluestone walk, landing and steps, lit at the tread.

Seven thousand square feet above grade on two and a half acres, set above the road with no sightline to a neighbour. Rift-cut white oak runs continuous from the entry through the primary suite. Kitchen in Cambria Brittanicca Gold, full-height slab, bookmatched. Primary bath in Taj Mahal quartzite — floor, walls, shower and tub surround, one stone, no transitions. Satin brass throughout.

The practice

One party, from the ground to the gutter, for as long as you own it.

Custom homes: Ground-up residences, commissioned. We hold the design decisions rather than executing someone else's — every specification locked and documented before a wall closes.
Development: We buy land and build on our own capital. The judgement we bring to your house is the judgement we use on our own money.
Kitchens & baths: Full renovation for existing houses, at the same standard and with the same trades as new construction.
Site & grounds: Excavation, drainage, hardscape and planting. The envelope starts at the property line, not the foundation.
Windows & doors: Imported directly from Europe, along with our gutter and rainwater systems. Specified and supplied, to our own projects and to other architects.
Estate: Annual service contracts. Grounds, maintenance, seasonal work — one number, indefinitely. Houses we built, and a small number we didn't.

The firm

We design, build, and keep houses in Greenwich, Darien, New Canaan and Westport.

Most builders in this market coordinate other people's decisions. We make them — direction, materials, fixtures, and the details that only become visible once it is too late to change them.

The trades are ours. Carpentry, roofing, site, mechanical, and project management sit under one roof, which is why we can answer for the work rather than pass the question along.

We take on a small number of houses at a time, by referral and by direct enquiry.
